A small band of teenagers from both dysfunctional and good backgrounds forms a gang where strength is valued and subordination is not an option. Consideration of others is unacceptable, but the gang’s strong racial and xenophobic beliefs are challenged when a new student arrives who is Vietnamese.

The novel received honorable mention in the Book of the Year 2006 competition organized by the Polish Section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).

Till First Blood was also named the Best Book for Young Readers in the 2008 edition of the Literary Competition of the Polish Association of Book Publishers (PTWK).
